Soccer Benches

Posted by sean1 on May 5, 2008

At soccer practice the benches were filled. There were 6 benches. There can be 24 people on each bench. How many people were at practice?

This is a tough one because 6 x 24 is not a basic math fact. However, I think it is easy to count by 25 because that is like counting quarters. Six quarters would be $2.50 so 6 x 25 is 250. But I have 6 less than that because the benches only seat 24 people, so 250 – 6 = 244. I think there were 244 people at the practice. Am I correct?
